Property Owner Letter May 2020
Dear Upper Cormorant Lake Property Owners:
The Upper Cormorant Lake Association (“UCLA”) has again contracted to treat Curly Leaf Pondweed in
Upper Cormorant Lake in 2020. The treatment of Curly Leaf Pondweed has occurred in past years, as further
explained in prior mailings to Upper Cormorant Lake property owners, public notices on the Lake Association’s
web page at www.uppercormorant.com, and during the UCLA annual meetings in June.
In years prior to 2012, UCLA was required to obtain signatures on authorizations allowing treatment of the
Curly Leaf Pondweed adjacent to a property owners’ shoreline. In 2012, the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources granted UCLA a waiver of that signature requirement, with UCLA providing alternate forms of
notifying property owners of the treatment. The Minnesota DNR has again granted UCLA a waiver of the
signature requirement for 2020.
This letter is one form that UCLA is using to notify property owners. Other forms include notification on
UCLA’s web page, www.uppercormorant.com, and during UCLA’s annual meeting. The annual meeting this
year will likely be canceled or rescheduled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Thus, if you have any questions
or concerns regarding the 2020 treatment please contact Mark Hanson as set out below.
With regard to the treatment for this year, 2020:
      1.  The proposed date for treatment: Based upon the herbicide manufacturer’s recommendations, the
treatment will be conducted by PLM Lake & Land Management Corp. (“PLM”), P.O. Box 328, Brainerd, MN
56401. PLM is the company that treated Curly Leaf Pondweed on Upper Cormorant Lake in previous years. If
PLM is not used, a DNR approved company will perform the treatment.  The Curly Leaf Pondweed will be
treated when the water temperatures are between 50 degrees F and 60 degrees F. It is anticipated that the
treatments will begin in the later part of May 2020, depending on conditions such as water temperature.
      2.  The target species for the treatment: Curly Leaf Pondweed.
      3.  The method of control or product being used:  The Curly Leaf Pondweed will be controlled through
use of Aquathol K chemical treatment.
      4.   How landowners my request that control not occur adjacent to the landowner's property: If you desire
that the treatment of Curly Leaf Pondweed not occur adjacent to your property, please notify Mark Hanson,
UCLA President, immediately, but before May 18, 2020, at the following address, phone number or email
